Our Story
At Sit Stay Bakery, we’re all about our four-legged friends. In many ways, we think they can teach us how to be better humans. It all started with a dog named Mooch.
He was found in rural North Carolina - heartworm positive, underweight, and with severe damage to his paws. He was taken to a high-kill shelter where he wasn’t likely to survive very long.
Thankfully, the good folks at City Dogs Rescue picked him up and took him to foster care in Washington, DC. They made sure he was safe and cared for until he found his forever family with us. They even paid for his medical bills while he received several months of intense heartworm treatment.
He was shy and skeptical when we first brought him home, but after some time and TLC (and lots of peanut butter and snuggles) Mooch settled in to becoming a healthy, happy, loving family member who was always right at home in the middle of the couch.
We cannot overstate the love and joy Mooch has brought into our lives and the gratitude we have for everyone who cared for him before he found us. We appreciate hard work shelters and rescues across the country do to save animals like Mooch.
Sadly, many rescues and shelters are underfunded; and they often rely on the support of donors to help cover costs of veterinary care, transport, shelter, and food. That’s where we come in.
Each month, Sit Stay Bakery produces 200 made-to-order scones whose sales benefit rescues and shelters in the DMV area. We rotate our flavors monthly and name the scones after real-life rescue pups who got a second chance. Half of all our profits go directly to a designated rescue or shelter – and to help spread the love – we choose a new rescue or shelter to sponsor each month.
We believe all dogs are good dogs and want to do everything we can to help give a leg up to those in need. So please consider supporting us by purchasing some scones and helping ensure every dog has their day.
